Questions and answers
- Product Quality & Allergies What kind of paints do you use?
- I only use professional, high-quality brands such as Superstar, TAG, Chameleon, Diamond FX, and Snazaroo. These cosmetic products are fully hypoallergenic and anti-bacterial. If you wish to review the specific components or safety dataheets, the full list of manufacturer ingredients can easily be looked up online.
- What if my child has sensitive skin or allergies?
- If you are concerned about potential skin sensitivities but would still like to be painted, we can easily perform a quick patch test. I will apply a small dab of paint to the inside of the elbow and we can check for any skin irritation after 20 minutes. If you are still in doubt about potential reactions, it is best to either avoid face painting altogether or opt for a design on the arm or hand, which is much less susceptible to skin reactions than the face.
- How do I safely remove the face paint?
- Because all of my professional products are water-based, simple soap and warm water works best for removal. I highly advise against using wet wipes, as the chemicals in them can actually trigger a skin reaction when rubbed over face paint. Please note that a few vibrant paint products contain strong pigments that might still be slightly visible after the very first wash, but any remaining shadow will come out completely with a little more soap and water.
- Age & Behavior Limits - Can you paint children under 2 years old?
- It is inadvisable to paint children under the age of two. This boundary is based on the official recommendations of most face paint manufacturers and aligns strictly with the rules of the Public Liability Insurance policy that I hold. The primary medical reason for this is that children under two do not have a fully developed immune system, meaning that cosmetic products applied to their skin at such an early age can easily trigger unwanted allergic reactions.
- Can you paint children under 3 years old?
- Children between the ages of two and three will be painted purely at the discretion of the face painter. If a child appears unwilling, fearful, or apprehensive about the process, or if they cannot sit still enough for a brush to be used safely, they will not be painted. My priority is always to avoid causing any unnecessary distress or discomfort to the child.
- Hygiene & Skin Conditions - Are there any skin conditions that cannot be painted?
- To protect all of my clients and prevent the contamination of my products, I will not paint anyone displaying signs of a contagious skin condition. Likewise, I cannot apply paint over any open wounds, cuts, grazes, or scabs, as doing so may encourage infection or further irritation. This safety rule also applies directly to patches of active eczema and psoriasis, as face paint can further dry out and aggravate these specific skin conditions.
- How do you keep your equipment clean and hygienic?
- I maintain incredibly strict hygienic practices to avoid any transfer of germs between your guests. Every single sponge is strictly confined to use on one person's face only; after the booking, used sponges are thoroughly washed in cold water and then treated with very hot water to safely kill any bacteria. Paint brushes are fully sanitized with professional anti-bacterial products between every single booking, and I keep my hands thoroughly clean on long jobs by changing my water frequently and using anti-bacterial wipes.
- Booking Capacity & Setup Requirements - How many faces can you paint in an hour?
- When working on standard, full-face detailed designs, I can paint approximately 12 children per hour. If your event has a much higher turnout and you do not have enough time allocated, please let me know. I can easily pivot to faster cheek art designs and simplified, high-speed faces to speed through an extra 6 to 8 children per hour, which we can discuss together either at booking or directly on the day of the party.
- What do you need the host to provide on the day?
- To achieve the best artistic results and prevent physical injury or back pain during a long session, hosts should provide two full-size chairs and a normal-height table for my workspace. On longer bookings, the host should also ensure that brief, adequate breaks are factored into the schedule.
